Hradec Kralove, East Bohemia, Czech Republic

Briefly about Hradec Králové

Hradec Kralove (100 000 inhabitants, 25 000 students) is located in East Bohemia, about 120 km far from Prague. It is a city of two faces. The first is historical and crowned with five spires on the main square. The second is modern and unique, established at the start of the 20th century with the inimitable atmosphere of the optimistic times of the First Republic. Travel through both worlds, have a seat in one of the local cafes and watch the game of light and shade on the Functionalist and Cubist palaces as well as the pastel colours of the Renaissance houses which change with the rays of sunlight.

Briefly about East Bohemia

Do you like mysterious rock cities and table mountains? You will get your fill of them here. By the way, the Adršpach rock city is one of the most famous ones in the Czech Republic. Military monuments constitute a rarity here, for example the Josefov Fort or locations commemorating the Battle of Hradec Kralove in 1866. The most important event is the famous Velka pardubicka Steeplechase. It is also worth visiting the wonderful Renaissance Litomyšl Chateau, which is listed as a UNESCO monument, and also the Baroque complex at Kuks.
