• Milestones of Czech History in a Transcultural Perspective: The Basic Themes and Concepts (E27, E28)
  

Czech lands are situated in the very heart of Europe, on the crossroads of history and culture. The main aim of the lecture is to provide the students with a basic overview of this unique space and its historical development. Cultural and political influences from Italy and Austria in the South, Germany and France in the West, Russia in the East; Catholics, Protestants and Jews, all of them had a tremendous impact on the making of Czech cultural heritage. Is the Czech Republic eastern edge of Western Europe or western edge of the East? Or does it represent specific Central European area? We will try to find together answers to these questions.

• Milníky české historie v transkulturní perspektivě: základní témata a koncepty 

České země se nachází v samém srdci Evropy, na křižovatce dějin a kultury. Hlavním cílem přednášky je poskytnout studentům základní přehled o tomto jedinečném prostoru a jeho historického vývoje. Kulturní a politické vlivy z Itálie a Rakouska na jihu, Německu a ve Francii na západě, Ruskem na východě; Katolíci, protestanti a židé, všichni měli obrovský vliv na tvorbu českého kulturního dědictví. Je Česká republika východní okraj západní Evropy či západního okraje Východu? Nebo to představuje určité specifikum středoevropského prostoru? Na tyto otázky se budeme snažit společně najít odpovědi.

• Jewish Heritage in Czech History (E27, E28)
  

First Jewish settlement in the Czech lands is recorded in 10th century. Ever since this time the Jewish minority had a crucial influence on Czech culture and history. From Prague Jewish town in the time of emperor Rudolf II at the beginning of 17th century, when it became one of the capitals of European Jewish community, to Franz Kafka, one of the most famous writers ever, who lived in Prague at the beginning of 20th century Jews played a vital role in formation of culture of the Czech lands. The lecture will be an overview of the history of Czech Jews with emphasis on their cultural heritage.

• Židovský odkaz v českých dějinách
  

První židovské osídlení v českých zemích je zaznamenáno již v 10. století. Od této doby měla židovská menšina zásadní vliv na českou kulturu a historii.

Z pražského židovského města v době císaře Rudolfa II. na počátku 17. století, kdy se stalo jedním z hlavních měst evropské židovské komunity, až po Franze Kafku, jednoho z nejznámějších spisovatelů všech dob, který žil v Praze na začátku 20. Století, hráli Židé důležitou roli při formování kultury českých zemí. Přednáška bude přehledem dějin českých Židů s důrazem na jejich kulturní dědictví.

• Concept of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis, and Their Merit to the Real Life (E27, E28)
  

Logotherapy is a modern psycho-therapeutic method developed by the Viennese doctor Victor Frankl. He complemented therapy with the spiritual aspect of man. The axis of logotherapy and existential analysis is the search for meaning. In other words it is more than just psychotherapy, it is a kind of philosophy of life, since the core of existential analysis is to say YES to life. Students can try this psychological discipline out by means of a lecture and a tutorial lesson.

• Koncept logoterapie a existenciální analýzy a jejich význam pro reálný život
  

Logoterapie je moderní psycho-terapeutická metoda vyvinutá vídeňským lékařem Viktorem Franklem. Ten spojil terapii s duchovním aspektem člověka. Osa logoterapie a existenciální analýzy je hledání smyslu. Jinými slovy, je to víc než jen psychoterapie, je to druh filozofie života, protože jádro existenciální analýzy je říci ANO k životu. Studenti mohou vyzkoušet tuto psychologickou disciplínu pomocí přednášky a výukové lekce.

• Selected Events in Czech History of 20th Century and Foreign Feedback in a Transcultural Perspective (E27, E28)
  

In the 20th century the former Czechoslovakia was buffeted by events that shaped its form and its relationship to surrounding countries on cultural, political, social and also personal level. Many of these events, eg. a political process with dr. Milada Horakova, burning to death of Jan Palach or so called Velvet Revolution, were also reflected abroad. The lecture and following workshop will introduce selected events and will try to reflect them in a Transcultural Perspective.

• Vybrané události českých dějin 20. století a jejich zahraniční ohlasy v transkulturní perspektivě
  

Bývalé Československo bylo v průběhu 20. století zmítané událostmi, které formovaly jeho podobu i vztah k okolním zemím na kulturní, politické, společenské i osobní úrovni. Mnohé z těchto událostí, jako např. proces s dr. Miladou Horákovou, upálení Jana Palacha, byly reflektovány i v zahraničí. Přednáška a následující workshop vybrané události představí a budou se je snažit reflektovat v transkulturní perspektivě.

• Transcultural Communication in the Central European Region: Freedom, Equality and Ties with the Natural Environment (E27, E28)
  

Despite all the repeated calls for transdisciplinarity, thinking about current societal problems from both cultural and environmentalist perspective is rather rare. Even though Central European states do not belong to the top European immigrant countries, cultural heterogeneity has always been relatively high in the area and it is rapidly increasing as a result of various global trends. The issue of living in a society composed of individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds is usually approached exclusively from the viewpoint of social sciences and the debate rotates around the (in)existence of any applicable universal principles on which the societal order could be based. In the lecture, Central Europe is approached as an ambiguous mental community rather than a closed geographical area. Nevertheless, there are some historical, environmental and also cultural ties among Central European countries that allow us to conceptualize this part of Europe as a whole. The lecture examines three crucial qualities necessary for a nonviolent and resilient culturally heterogeneous community, with a special attention paid to the existing conditions for their functionality within Central Europe. These qualities include freedom, equality and bond to natural environment. The main hypothesis of the lecture is: One of the main contemporary challenges of Central Europe is to learn how to deal with social, cultural and environmental issues in a coherent, interlinked way. Therefore, we need to define basic principles that could guide our society in spite of strong social, political, economic or ecological pressures.

• Hodnotová výzva v soudobé střední Evropě: Svoboda, rovnost a vazby na životní prostředí
  

Přednáška seznamuje se třemi základními výzvami dneška, před nimiž stojí Česká republika, respektive celý středoevropský region. Patří sem rozvolnění vazby mezi hodnotami svobody a odpovědnosti v ekonomické sféře, hrozba novodobého fašismu v čase dramaticky narůstající migrace a nedostatečné povědomí o bytostné svázanosti kultury a přírody.

• Transcultural communication - What can it offer? A dialogue in spite of cultural differences in Lithuania, Czech Republic and Cyprus (E27, E28)
  

Transcultural communication is of great importance in situations when cultures and ethnicities clash. Of three selected cases from 20th century Europe (the extermination of Lithuanian Jews, the violent expulsion of Czechoslovak Germans and the killings of Turkish Cypriots), the author identifies the basic conditions under which a transcultural dialogue is possible. These include, for example, the obligation not to remain silent, suspension of truth, clôtural reading of history, rejection of collective guilt, and the political relevance of transcultural dialogue.

• Transkulturní komunikace - Co může nabídnout? Dialog navzdory kulturním rozdílům v Litvě, České republice a na Kypru
  

Transkulturní komunikace má velký význam v situacích, kdy se kultury a etnika střetávají. Na třech vybraných případech 20. století v Evropě (vyhlazování litevských Židů, násilného odsunu československých Němců a zabíjení tureckých Kypřanů) identifikuje přednášející základní podmínky, za kterých je možný transkulturní dialog. Patří mezi ně například povinnost nemlčet, zamlčování pravdy, uzavřené čtení dějin, odmítání kolektivní viny, a politický význam transkulturního dialogu.

• Columba Experiment or how to Communicate Contemporary Art? Spiritual Semantics of Contemporary Non-figurative Art (E27, E28 nebo přednáška přímo v terénu na Kuksu)
  

The Lecture supplemented with a visual accompaniment examines problematic grasp of contemporary art. It tries to show its conceptual dimension and a spiritual dynamic. For this purpose, it points out the unique curatorial experiment in Cologne, which connects the works of contemporary authors with classical artistic values. The conceptual intention will be shown at specific examples with illustrations.

• Columba Experiment aneb jak komunikovat Současné umění? Duchovní sémantika současného nefigurativního umění
  

Přednáška doplněná vizuálním doprovodem zkoumá problematické pochopení současného umění. Snaží se ukázat svůj koncepční rozměr a duchovní dynamiku. Za tímto účelem poukazuje na jedinečný kurátorský experiment v Kolíně nad Rýnem, který spojuje díla soudobých autorů s klasickými uměleckými hodnotami.

Koncepční záměr se bude zobrazovat na konkrétních příkladech s ilustracemi.

• The Visit of Selected Exhibition, which will follow the morning Lecture
  

The morning lecture will be followed by a trip into the countryside near Kuks, where we will show how contemporary art can accommodate in traditional concept of the Via Crucis. We will visit here several sculptural installations that freely quote or evoke inner atmosphere of anthropological questions, through which the Via Crucis confronts man.

• Návštěva vybrané výstavy (venkovní expozice), která bude navazovat na ranní přednášku
  

Ranní přednášku bude následovat výlet do přírody u Kuksu, kde si ukážeme, jak se může současné umění uplatnit v tradiční koncepci Křížové cesty. Zde navštívíme několik sochařských instalací, které volně citují nebo evokují vnitřní atmosféru antropologických otázek, s nimiž je člověk prostřednictvím Křížové cesty konfrontován.
