Day 1 - Political Science

Morning lesson at faculty - dr. Pavla Dočekalová

"Politics of the Czech Republic"

Politics of the Czech Republic. The lecture is focused on the explanation of main features of the Czech politics. An emphasis is given especially on two issues: 1) Analysis of main institutions of legislative power (i.e. parliament) and executive power (i.e. president, government), with an explanation of their role in the political system and their mutual relations. The lecture also focuses on the question whether the political system changed with an introduction of the direct election of president in 2012. 2) Political parties and party system. The lecture covers the explanation of development of party politics in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the 1990´s. It analyses main political parties, especially those which are currently represented in the lower parliamentary chamber.

"Politický systém České republiky"

Politický systém České republiky. Přednáška se zaměřuje na vysvětlení hlavních rysů českého politického systému. Důraz je kladen na dvě témata: 1) Analýzu hlavních institucí legislativní moci (tj. parlament) a výkonné moci (tj. president, vláda), s vysvětlením jejich role v politickém systému a jejich vzájemných vztahů. Přednáška zodpovídá otázku, zda se politický systém změnil se zavedením přímé volby prezidenta v roce 2012. 2) Politické strany a stranický systém. Přednáška pokrývá vysvětlení vývoje stranického systému v České republice od počátku 90. let 20. století. Analyzuje hlavní politické strany, zejména ty, které jsou momentálně zastoupeny v dolní komoře parlamentu.

Pavla Dočekalová

She graduated from the Palacky University in Olomouc (Ph.D. in Political Science). Currently works as an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science, Philosophical Faculty, University of Hradec Králové where she teaches courses on political systems of European countries. Her main research interests are radical right-wing populism and electoral fraud and manipulation.

Pavla Dočekalová

Absolventka doktorského studijního oboru Politologie na Filozofické fakultě Univerzity Palackého v Olomouci. Působí jako odborná asistentka na Katedře politologie Filozofické fakulty Univerzity Hradec Králové, kde vyučuje kurzy zaměřené problematiku politických systémů evropských zemí. Ve výzkumné oblasti se zaměřuje zejména na témata radikálního pravicového populismu a volebních podvodů.

"Energy Security in the EU-Russia Relations"

Energy Security in the EU-Russia Relations. The lecture is focused on the explanation of the energy security concept and its importance in energy relations between the European Union and Russian Federation. An emphasis is given especially on three issues:

1. Historical development and definition of the energy security concept (Jan Sádlo, Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic)

Lecture will focus on the historical development and definition of the energy security concept.

2. Energy security and policy of the EU towards Russia (Jitka Holubcová, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

What are the challenges and solutions to the EU's import dependency? Does the Lisbon Treaty energy policy mandate and the "Energy Union" project help addressing the EU energy security challenges? Does the EU take coordinated approach to the third countries, especially energy exporters and transiters? In this respect the energy relations between EU-Russia, or Russia and respective member states of the EU are key, since Russia is the main energy exporter to the EU.

3. Russian approaches to energy security in relation to the EU (Nikita Odintsov, Institute of International Relations Prague and Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University)

Lecture covers the geo-economic aspects of EU/Russia energy relations. The presentation aims to explain the political and economic causes of the conflict over the European gas market regime.

"Energetická bezpečnost ve vztazích mezi EU a Ruskem"

Energetická bezpečnost ve vztazích mezi EU a Ruskem. Přednáška se zaměří na vysvětlení energetické bezpečnosti a její význam ve vztazích mezi Evropskou unií a Ruskou federací. Důraz je kladen na tři témata:

1. Historický vývoj a vymezení konceptu energetické bezpečnosti (Mgr. Jan Sádlo, Ministerstvo průmyslu a obchodu ČR)

Prezentace se zaměří na historický vývoj a definici konceptu energetické bezpečnosti.

2. Energetickou bezpečnost a politiku EU vůči Rusku (Mgr. Jitka Holubcová, Ministerstvo zahraničních věcí ČR)

Prezentace se zaměří energetickou politiku a bezpečnost EU ve vztahu k Rusku s cílem odpověď na několik otázek: (1) Jaké jsou výzvy a řešení dovozní závislosti EU? (2) Pomůže Lisabonská smlouva a projekt Energetické unie při řešení problémů EU v oblasti energetické bezpečnosti? (3) Má Evropská unie koordinovaný přístup vůči třetím zemím, zejména ve vztahu k exportérům a tranzitním zemím? V tomto ohledu jsou klíčové energetické vztahy mezi EU a Ruskem, či mezi Ruskem a členskými států EU, neboť Rusko je hlavní dodavatel energetických zdrojů do EU.

3. Přístup Ruska k energetické bezpečnosti ve vztazích s EU (Mgr. Nikita Odintsov, Ústav mezinárodních vztahů a Fakulta sociální věd, Univerzita Karlova)

Tato prezentace se zaměří na geo-ekonomické aspekty vztahů mezi EU a Ruskem v oblasti energetiky. Prezentaci si klade za cíl vysvětlit politické a ekonomické příčiny konfliktu ohledně režimu evropského trhu s plynem.

Jan Sádlo

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University in Brno. Since March 2013, he works for the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. In October 2014, he became a Head of the International Cooperation in Energy unit under the Strategy and International Cooperation Department. His area of focus is energy security, European climate and energy policy, the Energy Community and the energy agenda in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.

Jitka Holubcová

She graduated from College of Europe - focus on European Neighborhood Policy and EU - Russia relations. Since 2013 analyst of energy security of the Czech Republic and an Aide to Ambassador-at-Large for Energy Security, Mr. Vaclav Bartuska; engaged both in domestic energy policy and international energy security issues. Specializes in security of natural gas supplies, gas market integration, diversification efforts in CEE and beyond, and Energy Union.

Nikita Odintsov

He is an associate research fellow at the Institute of International Relations Prague and a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. His research interests include: energy security, geopolitics and the former Soviet Union.

Lukáš Tichý

He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Metropolitan University Prague in cooperation with the Institute of International Relations Prague in the Czech Republic. Since 2012, he works as an assistant professor of Department of Political Sciences FF UHK .Since 2014, he works as a researcher at the Institute of International Relations Prague. His field of interest includes energy security, the EU and Russian foreign and security policy, and the theories of international relations.

Mgr. Jan Sádlo

Je absolventem Fakulty sociálních studií Masarykovy univerzity v Brně. Od března 2013 pracuje na Ministerstvu průmyslu a obchodu v České republice. V říjnu 2014 se stal vedoucím odboru mezinárodní spolupráce v oblasti energetiky v rámci odboru strategie a mezinárodní spolupráce. Jeho oblastí zájmu je energetická bezpečnost, evropská klimatická a energetická politika, Energetické společenství a energetická agenda v rámci Východního partnerství.

Mgr. Jitka Holubcová

Vystudovala College of Europe se zaměřením na Evropskou politiku sousedství a vztahy EU-Rusko. Od roku 2013 je analytičkou energetické bezpečnosti ČR a poradcem velvyslanec pro energetickou bezpečnost Václava Bartušky. Zabývá se otázkami jak domácí energetické politiky, tak problematikou mezinárodní energetické bezpečnosti. Specializuje se na bezpečnost dodávek plynu, integraci trhu s plynem, snahy o diverzifikaci ve střední a východní Evropě i mimo ni a na Energetickou unii.

Mgr. Nikita Odintsov

Je externím spolupracovníkem Ústavu mezinárodních vztahů Praha a doktorandem na Fakultě sociálních věd Univerzity Karlovy. Jeho oblastí vědeckého zájmu je energetická bezpečnost, geopolitika a oblast bývalého Sovětského svazu.

Mgr. et Mgr Lukáš Tichý

Je interní doktorand Metropolitní univerzity Praha ve spolupráci s Ústavem mezinárodních vztahů Praha. Od roku 2012 pracuje jako odborný asistent na Katedře politologie, Filozofické fakulty Univerzity Hradec Králové. Od roku 2014 pracuje jako výzkumný pracovník na Ústavu mezinárodních vztahů Praha. Zabývá problematikou energetické bezpečnosti, zahraniční a bezpečnostní politikou EU a Ruska a teoriemi mezinárodních vztahů.

Day 2 - Sociology

"General Sociology"

The lecture sets itself two basic tasks. First, it addresses the question "What is sociology" by illustrating its scope and significance. Second, it introduces perspectives on Czech everyday social life in comparison with other EU countries.

"Obecná sociologie"

Seminář nastolí a zároveň zodpoví dvě základní otázky. Co se sociologie bude představeno na základě rozsahu vědní disciplíny a jejího významu. Druhá část představí perspektivy českého každodenního společenského života ve srovnání s jinými evropskými zeměmi.

"World Population Development"

There were 1,6 billion people on Earth at the beginning of the 20th century, yet 6,1 billion 100 years later, 7 billion was reached during 2011 and it is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050. Why are demographers optimistic about future population growth?

"Vývoj světové populace"

Na začátku 20. století čítala světová populace 1,6 miliardy. Nyní, o sto let později, je na světě 6,1 miliard obyvatel. Sedmimiliardová hranice byla pokořena v roce 2011 a odborníci předpokládají, že devíti milionů bude dosaženo v roce 2050. Proč jsou ovšem demografové tak optimističtí v predikci vývoje světové populace?

Ján Bunčák

Ján Bunčák, PhD., associated professor of sociology at University of Hradec Kralove, has had begun his professional career in applied sociological research in construction industry. Later he participated in academic research of social change and development forecasting and social stratification research of Czech and Slovak societies. Since 2012 is member of Department of Sociology at Faculty of Philosophy UHK and leads courses from general sociology and methods of social research.

Ján Bunčák

Dr. Ján Bunčák působí jako odborný asistent na Katedře sociologie FF UHK od roku 2012. Svou kariéru započal v oblasti aplikovaného sociologického výzkumu ve stavebnictví. Následně se věnoval akademickému výzkumu společenské změny a predikci vývoje a sociální stratifikace české a slovenské společnosti. V současné době vede kurzy obecné sociologie a metod sociálního výzkumu.

Lucie Vítková

Lucie Vítková studied demography and sociology at Charles University of Prague. She has focusted on long term population development patterns and its social consequences. She loves teaching the stories of demography.

Studovala demografii a sociologii na Karlově univerzitě v Praze. Zabývá se problematikou dlouhodobého populačního vývoje a jeho společenských důsledků. S radostí přednáší příběhy demografie.

"Sociology of post-socialism"

For scholars from west to east "post-socialism" represents a highly frequented concept. It is obvious that its use is therefore reflected in the multiplicity of its meanings. Generally speaking, "post-socialism" refers to a set of diverse processes and constellations - economic, political, socio-cultural, spatial, etc. - which the former socialist countries are facing in the last twenty years. The aim of this course is to provide students with: (1) basic conceptualizations of socialism and post-socialism, (2) changes that the post-socialist countries went through, (3) specifics of everyday life in the context of (post)socialist countries. The course put emphasis on the interdisciplinary and comparative dimension of post-socialist knowledge and research, especially on topics related to materiality (space, architecture, etc.) and visuality (symbols, narratives, etc.) The course materials draw from classical ethnographic writing on the topic, some sociological accounts on (post)socialist city, and finally from artistic material. The aim is to provide a complex picture of the various responses - academic, "common sense" as well as artistic - to post-socialism.

"Postsocialistická sociologie"

Post-socialismus je pro vědce celého světa vysoce užívaným konceptem. Je proto reflektován v řadě jeho významů. Obecně post-socialismus znamená soubor diverzifikovaných procesů a sestav - ekonomických, společenských, socio-kulturních i prostorových - se kterými se post-socialistické státy vyrovnávají posledních dvacet let. Cílem kurzu je seznámit studenty s: (1) základními pojmy socialism a post-socialismu, (2) proměnami, kterými tyto státy prošly, (3) specifiky každodenního života v kontextu (post)socialistických zemí. Kurz klade důraz na interdisciplinární a komparativní dimenzi post-socialistických znalostí a výzkumu, zejména v tématech souvisejících s materiální společností a vizualitou. V kurzu se bude pracovat s klasickými etnografickými texty, sociologickým pohledem na (post)socialistické město atd. Cílem je poskytnout posluchačům komplexní obraz různých přístupů k post-socialismu.

Petr Vašát

Petr Vašát, educated in social anthropology, works as a researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences since 2012 and an assistant professor at the Department of Sociology University of Hradec Kralove since 2014. As a short-term research fellow he has visited The University of Edinburgh, Durham University and University of Kent. His main field of interest is urban poverty, especially homelessness. He is interested in its temporal, spatial, material and visual expressions. At present he is the PI of the Hobohemia project where he is focused on topics related to public space, social relations, morality and temporality.

Petr Vašát

Vystudoval sociální antropologii a pracuje jako výzkumník v Sociologickém ústavu Akademie věd ČR od roku 2012 a jako odborný asistent na Katedře sociologie FF UHK pracuje od roku 2014. Působil krátkodobě jako na University of Edinburgh, Durham University a University of Kent. Jeho hlavním odborným zájem je urbánní chudoba, resp. bezdomovectví, které zkoumá z časového, prostorového, materiálního a vizuálního pohledu. V současnosti pracuje v projektu Hobohemia, kde se zabývá tématem veřejného prostoru, společenských vztahů, morálky a dočasnosti.

Day 3 - Philosophy

"Animal ethics"

An explanation of animal ethics will focus on a sphere of breeding wild animals and species preservation in zoos. Students will be informed about different positions in animal ethics: defence of animal´s right and welfarism. Criterions of welfare in a context of animal´s needs and abilities, conditions of successful reintroduction and enrichement for captive animals will be clarified though excursion. We will also pay attention to education role of zoo, which is supposed to justify keeping animals in captivity.

"Etika zvířat"

Výklad animal ethics bude zaměřen na oblast chovu divokých zvířat a záchranu druhů v zoologických zahradách. Studenti budou seznámeni s rozdílnými postoji a argumenty mezi zastánci práv zvířat a welfaristy. Při praktické prohlídce chovaných zvířat budou objasněna kritéria welfare v kontextu jejich potřeb a schopností, podmínky úspěšné reintrodukce a enrichment zvířat v zajetí. Budeme si všímat také výchovné funkce zoo, která má ospravedlnit držení zvířat v zajetí.

Marie Hrdá

She is assistant professor at Department of Philosophy and Social Science, Philosophical Faculty of the University Hradec Kralove. The main course of professional interest is ecological ethics, animal ethics, philosophical and evolutionary ethics. She is the author of a book Ethics and nature. In past years she carried out research into animal welfare in zoos and private breeders, especially felines; and into educational role of zoos.

Marie Hrdá

Mgr. Marie Hrdá, Ph.D. je odbornou asistentkou na Katedře filozofie a společenských věd na Filozofické fakultě Univerzity Hradec Králové. Hlavní oblastí jejího odborného zájmu je ekologická etika, animal ethics, filosofická a evoluční etika. Je autorkou knihy Etika a příroda. V minulých letech prováděla výzkum na téma animal welfare a speciálně kočkovitých šelem v zoologických zahradách a u soukromých chovatelů a na téma výchovné role zoo.

"Philosophical questions in biology"

Philosophical questions in biology comprise problems concerning various interpretations of evolution. An environmental aesthetician is fascinated by complexity of coloration of many animal species. Besides a standard Darwinian framework (sexual selection), there will be alternatives on the edge of biology and philosophy considered (Pormann's aesthetical morpohology).

"Filozofické otázky biologie"

Filosofické otázky biologie zahrnou problémy týkající se různých interpretací evolučního dění. Přírodního estetika fascinuje komplexita zbarvení mnoha živočišných druhů. Kromě standardního darwinistického rámce (pohlavní výběr) budou představeny alternativy na pomezí biologie a filosofie (Portmannova estetická morfologie).

Filip Jaroš

He is assistant professor at Department of Philosophy and Social Science, Philosophical Faculty of the University Hradec Kralove. His main interest is dedicated to the topic of anthropological difference and relations between humans and animals. He also studies environmental aesthetics: he published a book Beauty and the Beast together with s Ondřej Dadejík and Martin Kaplický. He has been doing research on inter-species communication, namely between humans and cats.

Filip Jaroš

Mgr. Filip Jaroš, Ph.D. je odborným asistentem na Katedře filozofie a společenských věd na Filozofické fakultě Univerzity Hradec Králové. Hlavní oblastí jeho odborného zájmu je téma antropologické diference a vztahu člověka se zvířaty. Dále se zabývá přírodní estetikou; na toto téma sestavil spolu s Ondřejem Dadejíkem a Martinem Kaplickým knihu Krása a zvíře. V současnosti se zabývá mezidruhovou komunikací člověka a některých zvířat, zejména kočky domácí.
